Float Your Boat: Where Does My Money Go?

Float Your Boat: Where Does My Money Go?

New financial literacy blended learning platform for youth and adults

Float Your Boat Media announces the launch of a new financial literacy curriculum for youth and adults called Float Your Boat: Where Does My Money Go? The blended learning platform provides instruction in essential financial concepts, commonly used terminology, guidance, resources, and everyday tools. As with other Float Your Boat courses, the platform is designed to accommodate individuals and service organizations. Its goal is to empower people to make informed decisions about their financial lives, seek appropriate assistance when necessary, and build the foundation for a lifetime of responsible financial behavior.

"Float Your Boat Media was founded with a mission to improve the employability and earning power of under-served youth and adults. Now we focus on the value that financial education brings to individuals, families, and their broader communities," says Jay Rabinowitz, Managing Director of Float Your Boat Media. "Young, old, employed, unemployed, English fluent, new English learners, citizens and immigrants all have compelling reasons for improving their financial knowledge and security. A basic understanding of current financial practices and institutions will give them the resources to make informed decisions.”

Float Your Boat Media believes that increasing financial knowledge in low-income populations will allow many people to rise from America’s social safety net to long-term self-sufficiency. We also observe that government, non-profit and faith-based social services organizations face an array of challenges in reaching and supporting clients. In turn, their clients have limited time, space, and resources. We have created a focused, accessible and low-cost learning solution that addresses both individual and organizational needs.

Targeted curriculum for learners, assessment and compliance tools for organizations

Float Your Boat: Where Does My Money Go? is a blended learning platform that stimulates student engagement via online/offline learning while making class management, assessment, and compliance easier. Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of a broad range of education and literacy levels. They can be used in different educational settings (self-guided, tutor, classroom) and cover the essential elements of financial literacy: Income and Earning Money, Saving Money, Banks and Banking, Understanding and Managing Debt, Investing in Your Future, Protecting Your Money. The sole focus is to provide content and tools that are relevant and actionable.

Lessons provide instruction in essential financial concepts, including vocabulary, guidance, resources, and everyday tools. Sample conversations, worksheets (budgets, checklists, vocabulary keys, etc.), interactive flash cards and quizzes are included. All lessons, worksheets, flash cards, and quizzes are available to download and print at anytime. Separate, printable instructor and student Quick Start guides help teachers and students get up and running quickly.

Organizations will find flexible group management tools to create and enroll students. Our on-board assessment features include the ability to track time on the system, lesson progress, and content mastery. Support is in place for remote class and student management. The entire platform uses a responsive design that allows the site to work 24/7 on a broad range of digital devices including computers, tablets and smart phones.

Float Your Boat: Where Does My Money Go? is offered on a subscription basis to individuals, and to organizations including social services and workforce development agencies, adult education institutions, libraries, correctional facilities and other community-based organizations.
